Natural micronised progesterone (MUGEST)

Carried as soft-gelatin capsules, sustained-release tablets and injection. The three presentations are not interchangeable and that is the point of stocking all of them: luteal support in an IVF cycle, threatened miscarriage and routine luteal phase deficiency are three different prescribing situations, and the doctor chooses the route.

Dydrogesterone (DYROCHEM)

An orally active progestogen widely used for luteal support and in threatened miscarriage protocols. Prescribed by brand more often than most molecules in the range, which makes consistency of supply unusually important — a substitution here is noticed.

Why presentation decides this category

Progesterone is poorly absorbed from a plain compressed tablet. That single fact governs the whole series. A soft-gelatin capsule delivers it in an oil base; an injection bypasses the question entirely; a sustained-release tablet is formulated for the purpose. A cheaper plain tablet is not the same product at a lower price — it is a different clinical proposition, and gynaecologists know it.
